Crispy Smoky Tofu

Ingredients

  • 1 x 400g block firm or extra firm tofu
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for GF option)
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • 3 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic granules
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp oil to fry

Instructions

  • Drain the block of tofu then gently press in between a clean tea towel for 20 seconds. Slice into bite sized cubes.
  • In a bowl mix all the remaining ingredients. Add the tofu to the mixture ensuring the cubes are fully coated and immersed in the marinade. Leave for 20 minutes to allow the flavours to absorb.
  • Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a frying pan over a moderate heat. Scoop the tofu out into the frying pan, ensuing you leave some marinade behind in the bowl for later use.
  • Cook the tofu for 2-3 minutes on each side, ensuring it is crisp and brown before turning.
  • Turn off the heat, remove the pan from the heat and leave for 1 minute to cool slightly, then add in your marinade and stir to combine.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy.
